Description

Built for lighting techs and designers who need every fixture in the chain to respond on cue, this 3-pin DMX cable is wired to the DMX512 standard with a 110Ω twisted pair, foil plus 95% braided copper shield, and gold-plated XLR connectors. Run it between your console and the rig with confidence: no flicker, no dropout, no chasing intermittent faults at 4am the night before doors.

It works on every fixture and console with a 3-pin XLR DMX port, including moving heads, dimmer packs, hazers, LED bars, and controllers from any manufacturer. The 110Ω characteristic impedance matters because it matches what DMX512 receivers expect, where mic cable at 50–75Ω causes signal reflections that flicker fixtures, drop bytes, and compound across long chains. With a 24AWG oxygen-free copper twisted pair on a 20mm pitch, plus full foil and 95% braid shielding, the signal stays clean past the corners of the venue, even with lighting power running parallel.

Who This Is For

  • Lighting technicians and touring crews
  • DJs and event production teams
  • Schools, churches, and venues
  • Stage and broadcast lighting setups

Best For

  • Fixture-to-fixture links, rack patching, and full DMX runs
  • Console-to-rig signal distribution across short and long distances
  • Clean, interference-free DMX signal chains in RF-heavy environments

Not Ideal For

  • Permanent outdoor installations (not IP-rated)
  • Very long single-run distances without proper termination
  • Audio signal use

Compatibility

  • DMX lighting controllers and consoles
  • Moving heads, LED fixtures, PAR cans, and dimmer packs
  • Hazers, fog machines, and DMX-controlled effects

Choose Your DMX Cable Length

Pick a length based on the distance between fixtures and your control source:

  • 0.5m–1m, fixture-to-fixture jumpers and tight rack patches
  • 2m–3m, console to splitter, splitter to first fixture, short bar runs
  • 6m–10m, standard stage and venue runs, truss to floor positions
  • 15m–20m, long throws across larger stages, FOH to rig, multi-truss spans

On a busy show day the DMX line is the last thing you want to troubleshoot. Foil plus 95% braid blocks RF from dimmer packs, hazers, and the lighting power running alongside. The 20mm twisted pair pitch holds differential signal balance through the full 20m run, so a 32-fixture chain stays steady without dropping bytes. Gold-plated pins keep contact resistance consistent through repeated patching at load-in and pack-down. Clear heat shrink on each cable makes it easy to label your runs, keeping larger rigs organised and faster to troubleshoot. Designed in Brisbane, built to the spec a lighting rig actually runs at.

FAQs

What's the difference between a DMX cable and a mic cable?

A DMX cable is built to a 110Ω characteristic impedance with twisted pair geometry and full shielding, which is what DMX512 receivers expect. Mic cable is built for analogue audio at around 50 to 75Ω. Mic cable can carry DMX over short runs, but the impedance mismatch causes signal reflections that flicker fixtures, drop bytes, and behave unpredictably as the run gets longer or the chain gets more fixtures.

Should I get the 3-pin or the 5-pin DMX cable?

Most touring and venue lighting today runs on 3-pin DMX, so if your fixtures and console all have 3-pin XLR DMX ports, this is the cable you want. Some older fixtures, controllers, and architectural systems use 5-pin DMX, in which case go with our 5-pin DMX cable. The signal protocol is the same, only the connector differs.

Will this work with all my lighting fixtures and consoles?

Yes. The XLR 3-pin connector is the standard DMX512 fitment used by most moving heads, dimmer packs, hazers, LED bars, and lighting consoles with a 3-pin DMX port. Some older or specialist gear uses 5-pin DMX, in which case you'll need our 5-pin DMX cable or a 5-pin to 3-pin adapter.

What length of DMX Cable should I choose?

Use 0.5m to 1m for fixture-to-fixture jumpers, 2m to 3m for console to splitter or short bar runs, 6m to 10m for standard stage and venue distances, and 15m to 20m for long throws across larger stages. DMX512 supports long total chain lengths with the right cable, so 20m is comfortable on every link in a typical rig.

Is this DMX cable suitable for outdoor use?

The cable is rated to -20°C and handles temporary outdoor use under cover. It is not IP-rated, so it shouldn't be exposed to direct rain or permanent outdoor installation. For festival and outdoor work, keep cable runs and connections dry.

What's the warranty on this cable?

This cable is covered by a 5-Year manufacturers’ warranty.
