What does 300gsm mean for stage drapes?

300gsm (grams per square meter) refers to the fabric's weight and thickness. The higher the GSM, the heavier and more durable the material. 300gsm drapes provide a balance of thickness, durability, and flexibility, making them ideal for stage backdrops, event curtains, and theatre productions.

What does GSM actually feel like in everyday terms?

GSM (grams per square metre) measures the weight and density of a fabric — and in simple terms, it tells you how light or heavy a material will feel.

To help put that into perspective, here are some common comparisons:

  • 150–180gsm (T-Shirts) – Light, breathable, and easy to move
  • 300gsm (Medium-weight fabric) – Noticeably heavier with better coverage, similar to light canvas or thicker tablecloths
  • 800gsm (Heavyweight fabric) – Dense and substantial, similar to blockout curtains or heavy upholstery, with a fuller, more premium drape

In simple terms:

  • Lower GSM = lighter, thinner, more breathable
  • Higher GSM = heavier, denser, better coverage and durability

For event use, higher GSM fabrics create a cleaner, more professional look by reducing transparency and hanging more smoothly.

Are Titan AV stage drapes completely blackout?

Not entirely, but our 300 gsm stage drapes do block a significant amount of light and work well for stage backdrops and event setups.

How easy are 300gsm drapes to handle?

They are heavy enough for professional use but still manageable for setup and transport. Unlike ultra-heavy fabrics, 300gsm offers a balance of durability and ease of use.

Are Titan AV stage drapes flame retardant?

Yes. Our stage drapes are made from velvet fabric that has been tested to AS/NZS 1530.2, achieving a Flammability Index of 2. This indicates very low flame spread, making the fabric suitable for use in venues, events, exhibitions, and stage environments where fire safety is important.

Can I use these backdrop curtains for photography?

Absolutely! Our backdrop curtains provide a smooth, non-reflective surface, making them ideal for photography studios, video production, and content creation.
