Not sure where to begin with truss?

If you’re new to trussing, it’s totally normal to feel overwhelmed by all the shapes, sizes, and load ratings. But the truth is—you don’t need to be a rigging expert to build something awesome.

Here’s how to get started:

  • Pick a purpose. Are you hanging lights? Building a backdrop? Framing a screen
  • Stick with 290 Truss. It’s the industry standard—and the best all-rounder for most beginner builds.
  • Choose your shape. Box truss is the strongest and most versatile. Flat truss is great for banners or signs. Tri truss is lightweight and budget-friendly.
  • Plan your space. Measure your setup area and decide how tall or wide you want to go.
  • Get help if needed. For anything overhead, structural, or permanent—always consult a structural engineer to make sure your setup is safe and compliant.

What's the difference between 200, 290, and 400 truss?

The number refers to size: 290mm truss = 290mm wide. The bigger the number, the more load it can carry. 290mm is the sweet spot for strength, portability, and long-term versatility.

What does 290 Truss mean?

It refers to the outer dimensions of the truss (290mm x 290mm). Our 290 Truss features 50mm main tubes (chords) and 20mm bracing, each with 2mm thick walls.

Do I need tools to assemble this?

For small to medium structures, all you need is a hammer and a little muscle. Truss is designed to connect easily with precise alignment, and it’s genderless—so ends will join smoothly regardless of orientation.

That said, larger or elevated structures may require specialised gear like chain motors, chest harnesses, or shock-absorbing arrest lines to lift and secure safely. And for any structure—big or small—it’s best to consult a structural engineer to ensure it’s built safely and rated for your specific use.

Is this truss suitable for outdoor use?

Yes — Titan AV 290 Truss is built from corrosion-resistant 6082-T6 aluminium, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. It’s strong, lightweight, and trusted across everything from concerts and exhibitions to retail displays and corporate activations.

That said, safety depends on proper installation and load handling. Always consult a qualified structural engineer to ensure your truss system is safe for your specific setup and environment.

Can I hang an LED screen with 290 Truss?

Yes — for most medium-scale LED walls, we recommend using 5 Chord 290 Truss along the top of your structure, supported by 290 Box Truss. The additional central chord in 5 Chord Truss gives you the extra strength needed to safely hang heavier LED screens, display panels, and signage.

As always, you should consult a qualified structural engineer to confirm the load capacity and safety of your specific setup. Proper bracing, weight distribution, and anchoring are essential when flying heavy equipment like LED panels.

Is 290 Truss compatible with clamps and accessories?

Absolutely. The 50mm main chords fit standard 50mm lighting clamps and truss accessories.

Is Truss Safe?

Yes—when installed correctly, truss is incredibly safe and trusted by professionals worldwide.

Titan AV’s 290 truss is built from 6082-T6 aluminium alloy and independently load certified, ensuring it meets strict safety standards for strength and performance.

That said, safety doesn’t stop at strong materials. It depends on how your truss is used:

Use the right truss for the job
Use the right truss for the job — 290 Box Truss is a reliable all-rounder for most setups. Use 5 Chord Truss when hanging heavier items like LED screens.
Refer to load tables
Refer to load tables — Every truss has limits. Always check the supplied load ratings and understand how span, weight, and load placement affect performance.
Avoid overloading
Too much weight, or poor weight distribution, can cause dangerous deflection (bending).
Account for real-world conditions
Wind, rain, uneven ground, and movement can all impact the safety of your structure.
Consult a structural engineer
Especially for overhead, public-facing, or outdoor setups. Safety first—every time.

When in doubt, ask. Our team is here to help guide you with safe, modular solutions built for real-world use.

Which shape should I use?

  • Tube Truss – For bracing and lightweight applications
  • Flat Truss (Ladder) – Ideal for banners, arches, and compact installs
  • Tri Truss – Lightweight option with good support for lights or displays
  • Box Truss – Most popular: strong, balanced, and versatile.
  • 5 Chord Truss – Designed for LED walls and very heavy loads
